When did Funko start conquering the NFT digital art market?
As you will discover later in this article, Funko's team launched its very first NFT series last year. However, it was in 2021 that they took the necessary steps to enter the NFT market. Back then, the company acquired a majority ownership stake in TokenWave, LLC, the developer behind the popular NFT tracking and showcasing tool, TokenHead, which boasted over 100,000 daily visits as of April 2021.
In an official press release, Funko's CEO, Brian Mariotti, outlined the company's strategy, stating, that the goal was "to bring the value-added NFT opportunity to our licensing partners to leverage our broad range of existing pop culture content across Television, Movies, Sports, Music, Anime, Video Games and Comic Books," adding that Funko is "poised to enter the NFT market in a very unique manner by backing the rarest of the Funko NFTs with exclusive redeemable Funko Pop!s."
It took the company nearly a year to bring the first NFT ideas to life and mint the first digital collectibles using blockchain technology.
Past Funko NFT drop dates and collections
Following the launch of its debut NFT collection on March 15, 2022, Funko has subsequently introduced over twenty distinct sets of digital collectibles. Dive into the details of each below, but before you start exploring Funko NFT collections, make sure you understand the connection between Funko’s exclusive physical figurines and NFTs.
Funko NFT Royalty Set and Redemption Token
Regardless of an NFT series, all of Funko's digital collectibles are characterized by varying levels of rarity. While there may be distinctions between specific rarity tiers in some of Funko's NFT series, for the majority of them, NFTs of different rarity tiers enable Funko’s collectors to earn Redemption Tokens which are then used for claiming exclusive physical figurines.
As the Funko team explains, "Acquiring a Grail, Legendary, or Royalty Set makes you eligible for a Redemption Token, allowing you to redeem its physical counterpart."
But what exactly is Funko's Royalty Set? According to Funko, it is a collection that includes one of the collectibles belonging to the Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Epic Digital Pop rarity levels.
To simplify the task of tracking their collections, Funko provides a dedicated Collection Tracker, accessible only to logged-in users on the official website dedicated to Funko's NFT drops.
Digital Funko Pop Transformers
As previously mentioned, the long-awaited debut of Funko in the NFT space was witnessed by fans and the Web3 community in March 2022. The inaugural collection of digital assets was the Transformers x Funko NFT Collection Series 1, and these and subsequent Funko NFTs were minted on the WAX blockchain. The first Funko NFT collection presented collectors with two enticing options.
The first choice was Standard Pack, featuring five animated Digital Funko Pop Transformers, priced affordably at just $9.99. For the more enthusiastic collectors, the Premium Pack was available, offering a generous fifteen collectibles for $29.99.
The Digital Funko Pop Transformers collection showcased beloved characters such as Rumble, the transforming Optimus Prime, Hot Rod transformers, Sideswipe transformers, Devastator transformers, and even Freddy Funko as a Bumblebee transformer toy. Among these collectibles, there was also the coveted Transformers Series Coin.
The Digital Funko Pop Transformers boasted a minimum of five rarity levels, encompassing Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and the esteemed Grail. What made this NFT drop unique was that these NFTs could be acquired not only with cryptocurrencies but also with fiat currency.

Funko Pop My Little Pony
Funko followed up with the release of the My Little Pony x Funko NFT collection, the subsequent set of digital collectibles. This collection's drop commenced on June 28, 2022.
As of the current moment, the popular NFTs within this collection are the My Little Pony Series Coin, with a floor price of 0.11 USDC, and the collectibles of the Epic level featuring Freddy Funko as Spike and Maud Pie, with a floor price of 0.99 USDC.
Alongside the NFTs showcasing Maud Pie, the Funko Pop My Little Pony collection also encompasses other beloved characters such as My Little Pony Rainbow Dash, Queen Chrysalis, Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, and many more. Similar to the Digital Funko Pop Transformers, the Funko Pop My Little Pony collection was made available in blind Standard and Premium packages, priced at $9.99 and $29.99, respectively.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Funko Pop
Shortly after the Funko NFT drop featuring Princess Celestia and other characters from My Little Pony, the company embarked on another exciting collection: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Funko Pop NFTs.
This series pays homage to the iconic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and includes beloved characters like April O'Neal, the Michelangelo ninja turtle, the Donatello ninja turtle, the Raphael ninja turtle, the Leonardo ninja turtle, and their formidable adversaries.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Funko Pop collectibles were presented in two package options: the Premium packs, priced at $9.99, containing five NFT cards, and the Premium packs, available for $29.99, which included a whopping fifteen cards. Regardless of the package chosen, each one came with a bonus token, in addition to the pre-minted NFTs.
Furthermore, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Funko Pop collection introduced a special offer for dedicated collectors. As stated on the drop website, "Collect one of each unique Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Epic Digital Pop! to earn a Mastery Collection token and redeem it for an exclusive rare physical Pop!" It also mentioned that fortunate collectors who happened to receive a Legendary or Grail Digital Pop! in their pack were entitled to redeem it for a matching physical TMTN vinyl figurine.

Digital Avatar Funko Pop
On August 09, 2022, Funko and NFT enthusiasts had the opportunity to participate in an exciting drop that resulted from a collaboration between the toy company and Nickelodeon. This fusion of the Avatar cartoon universe and the Web3 realm gave birth to an extensive Digital Avatar Funko Pop collection, featuring 625,000 NFTs dedicated to beloved characters from The Legend of Korra and The Last Airbender series.
In keeping with tradition, these NFTs were made available in both Standard and Premium Packs, priced at $9.99 and $29.99, respectively. They were organized into various categories based on their rarity.
Among the characters featured in this collection were Fire Nation Aang, Bolin as Nuktuk, Painted Lady, Kuruk, Varrick, and Freddy Funko dressed in the Aang Costume.
Power Rangers Samurai in the digital Funko Pop Power Rangers collection
Soon after introducing the Digital Avatar Funko Pop collection, the toy company rolled out a drop for the Funko Pop Power Rangers NFTs, which consisted of 22,500 assets available in both Premium and Standard packs. These packs were priced in line with the previous Funko NFT collections.
Among the featured characters in this series were the Green Ranger with the Sword of Darkness, Ranger Slayer, Red Ranger with Dragon Shield, Power Sword, Dragon Dagger, Scorpina, Zordon, and Freddy Funko as Megazord.
Unfortunately, the Funko Pop Power Rangers NFTs, especially the Ranger Slayer, have stirred serious controversy. Numerous Funko Pop collectors have pointed out striking similarities or, to be more precise, almost indistinguishable differences, between the exclusive Ranger Slayer figurine redeemable by collectors who earned Redemption Tokens and the readily available physical Ranger Slayer figurine.
This remarkable lack of distinction between the two versions of Ranger Slayer has left many collectors dissapointed, who are now questioning the true value of these redeemable exclusive figurines. Acquiring these figures can be quite challenging, as Funko's customers often have to invest considerable sums, sometimes reaching hundreds of dollars, on packs containing NFT trading cards.
Digital DC Funko Pops
Next, devoted fans of DC comics were thrilled to have the opportunity to acquire the Batman Funko Pop NFT, along with the Harley Quinn Funko Pop, Superman Funko Pop, and Green Lantern Funko Pop digital collectibles.
The release of the Digital DC Funko Pops collection took place on September 6, 2022.
At the time of publication, some of the standout items in the collection included Wonder Woman White Lantern, The Joker Martha Wayne, Scarecrow, Batman in the Hellbat Suit, and Superman Blue.
The Series 1 of the DC Funko Pop digital collection is now completely sold out.
The Iron Maiden Funko Pop collection
On September 30, 2022, Funko continued to captivate collectors with a new wave of epic collectibles, unveiling the digital Iron Maiden Funko Pop series, which consisted of 18,000 Standard packs and 6,000 Premium packs, adhering to the standard pricing of $9.99 and $29.99, respectively.
"Iron Maiden x Funko features Eddie designs from his many guises," the official drop’s website states. Among the remarkable "rocking rarities" Funko presented were Eddie Stranger in a Strange Land in the Common tier, Killers Eddie in the Uncommon tier, Piece of Mind Eddie in the Rare tier, Somewhere in Time Eddie in the Epic rarity, Seventh Son Eddie in the Legendary tier, and Nights of the Dead Eddie in the Grail tier.
True fans of Iron Maiden wasted no time in acquiring all the NFTs within this collection, which is now completely sold out.
Game of Thrones Funko Pop NFTs
After long expectations, on October 4, 2022, devoted fans of the immensely popular TV show had the chance to acquire NFT cards featuring their beloved characters distributed in the Funko Pop Game of Thrones Standard and Premium NFT packs.
This animated NFT collection, featuring iconic characters like Daenerys Targaryen, Arya Stark, Giant Wight, The Hound, Jon Snow, and the Iron Throne, comprised an impressive 625,000 epic collectibles, all of which have already been completely sold out.

WB Horror Funko NFT
To celebrate Halloween, the toy company created a new NFT collection to pay tribute to a range of iconic evil personas featured in beloved horror films from Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema Films.
On October 31, 2022, the WB Horror Funko NFT collection was unveiled, spotlighting infamous characters like Regan from The Exorcist, The Nun from The Conjuring, Pennywise the Clown from IT, and more.
Digital Funko Matrix collectibles
Funko decided to keep its next NFT collection with the Warner Bros. film theme, but this time, the toy company dedicated it to a specific movie, iconic Matrix. The Matrix x Funko NFT Collection was released on November 19, 2022.

Buddy the Elf Funko Pop NFTs
Between December 13 and 14, 2022, Funko collectors were delighted with a special release of Funko's NFTs dedicated to Christmas, with a particular focus on Buddy the Elf. Much like previous WAX NFT drops, collecting NFT cards presented an opportunity for toy enthusiasts to potentially claim a super rare physical Buddy Elf Funko Pop! Figurine.
The collection featured six limited-edition statues, including Leon the Snowman, Ming Ming, Jovie, Buddy the Elf eating spaghetti, Buddy the Elf with a puffin on an iceberg, and even a figurine of Freddy Funko as Buddy.
Sid and Marty Krofft Funko NFT collection
In just over a month, on January 17, 2023, Funko introduced an NFT collection that honored the Sid and Marty Krofft shows. This collection was distributed in 12,500 Standard packs and 12,500 Premium packs.
Exclusive rare figurines, redeemable for eligible sets of Funko NFTs, showcased beloved characters like Jimmy, Seymour Spider, Horatio J. Hoodoo, and Sleestack, as well as Freddy Funko as Sleestack.
Digital Teen Titans Funko Pop collection
Enthusiastic fans of the Teen Titans TV series, including those who continue to hold out hope for a Teen Titans season 6, were delighted to take part in the release of 42,500 NFTs by Funko. This special event unfolded between January 31, 2023, and February 7, 2023.
Funko's NFTs featured iconic characters from the series, including Robin Teen Titans, Cyborg, and Titan Robot.
House of the Dragon Funko Pop NFTs
To mark the end of winter, the team introduced the House of the Dragon Funko Pop collection, much to the joy of collectors who may have missed out on the Game of Thrones Funko Pop collectibles.
This collection also includes matching exclusive physical collectibles, featuring figurines like Rhaenyra Targaryen Funko Pop, Sir Criston Cole Funko Pop, Viserys Targaryen Funko Pop, Daemon Targaryen Funko Pop, Vhagar Funko Pop, and Aemond Targaryen Funko Pop.
Dungeons and Dragons Funko Pop NFTs
On March 14, 2023, Funko welcomed the Web3 world to the realm of Dungeons and Dragons, specifically featuring its legendary adversaries and antagonists. Among the digital collectibles in this set are the Gelatinous Cube Funko Pop, the Funko Tiamat miniature, and the Acererak miniature.
Funko NFT Hanna-Barbera characters
On March 28, Funko invited collectors to embark on a nostalgic journey to encounter animated legends from the era of Huckleberry Hound to the days of Mr. Jinks and Mighty Mightor.
The list of exclusive physical figurines, redeemable for tokens earned by collecting NFT sets, includes beloved Hanna-Barbera characters like Birdman, Mighty Mightor, Huckleberry Hound, Mr. Jinks with Pixie and Dixie, and, of course, Freddy Funko.
Flinstones WAX NFT drops
Funko also introduced a collection dedicated to the cherished characters from The Flintstones. The WAX NFT drop occurred between May 9 and May 10, and collectors who received Redemption Tokens had the opportunity to acquire physical figurines of Dino, Barney Rubble, Fred Flintstone, Wilma Flintstone, and of course, Freddy Funko.
Adventure Time Funko NFT
The next Funko collection was released on June 6. This time, the WAX NFT drop featured characters from Adventure Time, including Finn, Jake, and various other beloved figures from the series.
This latest collaboration between Funko, Warner Bros, and Discovery Global Consumer Products led to the release of 16,250 Standard and 16,250 Premium NFT packs, along with a collection of physical figurines. These figurines showcased characters such as Randy Butternubs, Lady Rainicorn, GLOB, Peppermint Butler, Old Finn, and Freddy Funko in a Jake Suit.
NFT Funko Pop It
Devotees of Stephen King's masterpieces of horror, fans of the It cast, and ardent Funko collectors enthusiastically joined the WAX NFT drop of the Pop It collectibles on June 20.
Certainly, some of the NFTs showcase the legendary shape-shifting clown in the iconic Pennywise costume and Pennywise teeth. Other characters featured in the digital Pop It collectibles include Patrick Hockstetter, Eddie Kaspbrak, Shopkeeper, and Bill Denbrough.
NFT Stranger Things Funko Pop
One of the most highly anticipated digital collections was the NFT Stranger Things Funko Pop, which was unveiled on July 13.
For this release, the toy company set the prices for its digital Stranger Things Funko Pops slightly higher. A Standard Pack, consisting of five Funko Pop Stranger Things NFTs, was available for purchase at 14.15 USDC, while the Premium Pack, offering fifteen NFTs, was priced at 46.60 USDC.
Funko Pop Power Rangers NFTs Series 2
On August 22, Funko introduced Series 2 of Power Rangers NFTs. The pricing for these packages was notably more budget-friendly compared to the Stranger Things Funko Pop NFTs mentioned earlier. A Standard Pack was available for purchase at 8.70 USDC, while a Premium Pack was priced at 27.88 USDC.
Garnet Steven Universe Funko NFT and other collectibles
One of the most recent WAX NFT drops for Funko collectibles occurred on September 5, when the toy company introduced a set of NFT cards showcasing beloved characters from Steven Universe.
Garnet Steven Universe NFT, Steven Universe Peridot, Blue Dimond, Stevoniee, and Connie are some of the characters depicted on Funko’s NFTs. The pricing for a Standard Pack began at 13.44 USDC, while the Premium Pack was available for 29.00 USDC.
Jurassic Park Funko Pop NFTs
Two weeks following the debut of the Steven Universe NFTs, on September 19, the company initiated a WAX NFT drop for the Jurassic Park Funko Pop collection. In this release, the Standard Pack was priced at 11.49 USDC, while the floor price of the Premium Pack was set at 35.13 USDC.
WB 100th Anniversary NFT collection
In its next WAX NFT drop, Funko paid tribute to the 100th anniversary of Warner Bros. animation. The collection featured a Standard Pack priced at 12.87 USDC and a Premium Pack offered for 37.74 USDC. Among the legendary characters included in this collection were Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Lola Bunny, Tweety Bird, and various others.
This time, Funko infused more creativity into the collection by merging different prominent characters from WB's diverse lineup. For example, the collection featured NFTs showcasing Daffy Duck as Pennywise, Bugs Bunny as Superman, Lola Bunny as Wonder Woman, and another Bugs Bunny behind the wheel of The Mystery Machine from Scooby-Doo!.

Following the resounding successes of the digital Stranger Things Funko Pop and Jurassic Park Funko Pop collections, the prominent toy manufacturer is now unveiling an exhilarating range of NFTs inspired by the iconic film franchise, Back to the Future.
The Back to the Future Funko NFT Drop is the most recent addition to Funko's collection of digital collectibles. This fresh set of NFTs aims to resurrect the beloved Back to the Future characters in the digital realm and invites collectors to embark on a journey through time.
The Back to the Future Funko NFT Drop took place on October 17, and you still have an opportunity to secure your collectibles from among the 45,000 NFTs. As per Funko's tradition, these NFTs are distributed in Standard and Premium packs, with the NFT cards being evenly divided between the two types of packs this time.
The most sought-after treasures within the Back to the Future Funko NFT collection include the NFT assets of Dr. Emmett Brown and Marty McFly from Funko Pop. The compilation also features Einstein Funko Pop and the time-traveling machine Funko Pop. The majority of NFTs in this series showcase animated digital artwork presented in the form of iconic NFT cards.

Is NFT art from Funko worth it?
The question of whether Funko non fungible tokens make for a good investment is rather challenging. Many members of the Funko community strongly dislike NFTs in general, believing they disrupt the fun of collecting physical Funko Pops. Some of them literally hate NFTs so much that they quit collecting Funko Pops after the release of the first digital collection. Yet, there are also many collectors who are very pleased with Funko’s decision to go digital.
What is certain is that NFT cards featuring digital art undeniably provide a unique way to celebrate your favorite iconic personalities without spending valuable resources on the production of physical collectibles. Whether Funko's cards minted on the Ethereum blockchain can be considered completely carbon-negative NFTs is debatable, but they do contribute to saving the environment by reducing the need for the excessive plastic packaging of physical Funko figurines. In fact, unsold Funko physical collectibles worth $30 million were planned to end up in a landfill to free up the rental space and reduce costs associated with product storage.
However, the primary concern for most collectors revolves around the impact of digital collectible art on the value of physical collectibles from the toy company, especially the exclusive physical figurines that can be redeemed for special tokens earned through collecting NFTs. As mentioned earlier, the lack of significant differentiation between these exclusive redeemable figurines, which are not easily obtained, and their regularly available counterparts sold for around $15 in the US, make many collectors worry that some items in their collections may significantly lose value.
In particular, many complaints have arisen about Funko releasing regular physical figurines after customers have spent substantial amounts of money acquiring all the NFTs needed to claim their exclusive figurines. This approach has been considered unfair by many in the collectors' community.
Additionally, there are increasing reports of Funko not delivering physical figurines to their rightful owners at all or delivering damaged collectibles. Although the company has introduced a $30 compensation for such instances, collectors remain dissatisfied with this resolution, as they have already invested a significant amount to become eligible for receiving their exclusive physical Funko Pops.
Nevertheless, despite the controversy surrounding Funko's digital art project, many collectors aspire to become NFT owners of Funko Pop digital art, and several of Funko's NFT releases have become real Internet sensations. To collect these animated artworks and redeem exclusive Pops, some individuals are willing to invest thousands of dollars by purchasing packages or seeking out the most coveted digital paintings on the secondary market, where the most expensive NFT cards can be worth several hundred dollars.
Funko's NFT artwork continues to make waves in the crypto world, and even the most disheartened collectors are eager for new WAX NFT drops.
