Argentina to impose anti-money laundering rules on crypto

Argentine authorities will move to add cryptocurrency companies to the list of entities subject to know-your-customer requirements.

A person familiar with the matter told Buenos Aires Times that the new regulations could be published by the end of the year. The initiative may have been discussed during a recent meeting of the Argentine Anti-Money Laundering Committee.

If the measures are accepted, crypto companies in Argentina could be forced to collect essential customer information, monitor transactions and implement risk management procedures.

TripleA estimates that crypto owners constitute 2.94% of Argentinian population, close to levels seen in countries such as France and Canada. In the 2021 Geography of Cryptocurrency report published by Chainalysis, Argentina ranked 10th, beating China and Russia.
