Bitcoin price briefly fell below $80,000 today as traders reacted to hotter-than-expected U.S. inflation data, weaker risk sentiment, and renewed caution across crypto markets.

BTC touched a 24-hour low near $79,802 before recovering back above the psychological $80,000 level. By late Tuesday, Bitcoin was trading around $80,700 to $80,900, showing that buyers stepped in near the breakdown zone but had not yet restored stronger upside momentum.

 year over year in April, above the expected 3.7%. The data reduced expectations for Federal Reserve rate cuts in 2026 and pushed Treasury yields higher. Risk assets, including technology stocks and crypto, came under pressure after the release.

Bitcoin’s decline also followed a rally that had taken the asset back above $80,000 and briefly toward $83,000. Some traders viewed the drop as profit-taking after the recent move, while others pointed to weakening derivatives activity and lower spot demand.

Inflation Data Pressures Bitcoin Near $80,000

The hotter CPI report weighed on Bitcoin because higher inflation gives the Federal Reserve less room to lower interest rates. Crypto assets often react negatively when markets expect tighter policy for longer, since higher yields can reduce demand for risk assets.

 at the Federal Reserve has also added uncertainty. Kevin Warsh is expected to replace Jerome Powell as Fed chair if final Senate confirmation proceeds as scheduled. Markets are watching whether Warsh will lean toward tighter policy after the inflation reading or support the administration’s calls for lower rates.

Geopolitical tension has added another layer of caution. Escalation linked to the U.S.-Iran conflict has lifted energy prices and increased demand for safer assets. Higher oil and gasoline costs were a major driver of the CPI report, making the conflict relevant for both inflation and Bitcoin market sentiment.

Bitcoin’s ability to recover above $80,000 suggests that buyers still view the level as important support. However, a sustained move below that area could shift attention toward lower support zones and weaken the recent recovery structure.

Whale Accumulation Offsets Retail Caution

On-chain data showed that larger Bitcoin holders continued to accumulate even as smaller retail wallets reduced exposure. Wallets holding between 10 and 10,000 BTC reportedly added 16,622 BTC, equal to a 0.12% increase.

At the same time, wallets holding less than 0.01 BTC sold about 28 BTC, representing a 0.05% decline. This split suggests that larger stakeholders have remained active buyers while smaller wallets have shown more hesitation.

Historically, accumulation by larger Bitcoin holders has often been watched as a supportive signal during uncertain market periods. It can show that high-conviction investors are increasing exposure while retail traders turn cautious.

Still, whale accumulation alone does not confirm a full recovery. Bitcoin needs stronger spot demand and improved market breadth to build a cleaner move above resistance.

Derivatives data also points to a market that is not yet fully committed to another breakout. Open interest fell from about $29.09 billion on May 5 to $26.84 billion on May 11, a decline of roughly 7.75%. Lower open interest shows that leveraged positions have been reduced.

 and intensified, reflecting bearish positioning in derivatives markets. Negative funding can sometimes support rebounds if too many traders are short and spot selling remains limited. But it can also show weak confidence if buyers fail to regain control.

Analysts Watch Spot Demand and Short Squeeze Risk

Wintermute said Bitcoin’s recent move above $80,000 looked more like a short squeeze than a healthy breakout. The firm noted that open interest rose from about $48 billion to $58 billion over the past month while spot volumes remained near two-year lows.

That pattern can suggest that forced short covering helped drive the rally rather than strong organic buying. A healthy recovery would usually show stronger spot volume, improving liquidity and broader demand from buyers who are not using heavy leverage.

Bitcoin’s recent price action has also been narrow despite 

 by the end of the year. Around May 11, BTC traded close to $82,000 with limited movement. Spot volume rose only slightly, while volatility declined, showing that the market had paused rather than entered a decisive expansion phase.

The key near-term level remains the $82,300 area. If Bitcoin breaks above that zone with improving spot demand and rising open interest, bullish continuation could become more likely. Without that move, sideways trading may continue.

Consequently, with the recent BTC price fluctuations, Bridgewater founder Ray Dalio has 

 Bitcoin’s role as a safe-haven asset. He said Bitcoin has not behaved like gold during periods of stress, citing its correlation with technology stocks, limited privacy and tendency to be sold when investors need liquidity.

Dalio’s remarks add to the debate over Bitcoin’s market role during macro shocks. While some investors like Michael Saylor treat BTC as digital gold, recent price action shows it still trades closely with broader risk appetite.

XRP’s Institutional Breakthrough Could Redefine Its Role in Global Finance 

XRP could be shifting into a new phase of adoption, driven primarily by institutional finance infrastructure.

If this direction holds, it signals a deeper role for the XRP Ledger in institutional markets, where digital assets are increasingly being integrated into core liquidity and settlement frameworks rather than treated as purely speculative instruments.

At the heart of this shift is cross-margining, a system where institutions can post digital assets as collateral without first converting them into cash. 

In traditional markets, collateral is the backbone of leverage, derivatives, and liquidity management. By bringing XRP into that framework, Ripple Prime is reframing it from a speculative asset into a functional piece of institutional finance infrastructure. 

Rather than liquidating XRP to unlock liquidity, institutions could hold it as an asset, post it as collateral, and borrow against it while still maintaining market exposure. This is essentially the same mechanism used in traditional prime brokerage, where equities, bonds, and commodities are leveraged to access credit and liquidity without being sold. 

XRP’s Push Into Institutional Finance and Liquidity Infrastructure 

The real shift is about capital efficiency. Institutions are always looking for ways to unlock liquidity without dismantling their positions. If XRP can be accepted as high-grade collateral, firms wouldn’t need to offload assets into cash just to access credit or settle trades. 

This strengthens XRP’s utility story in a meaningful way, driven by real institutional demand rather than short-term speculation.

It also reflects rising confidence in XRP’s liquidity depth and market infrastructure. In institutional finance, only assets that can hold up under volatility and move efficiently through markets get serious collateral consideration. XRP being discussed in the same category as Bitcoin and Ethereum signals a perception that it has matured into a more reliable, institution-ready asset class.

Momentum behind this vision is clearly building. Ripple Prime recently 

secured a $200 million financing facility

 from Neuberger Specialty Finance to scale institutional margin financing across both crypto and traditional markets.

Furthermore, Ripple Prime is being included in 

 involving major financial players like BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and Nasdaq through initiatives tied to the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation.

If XRP becomes embedded in institutional collateral frameworks, its role could shift beyond speculation, evolving into core infrastructure within the plumbing of modern financial markets.

Senator Elizabeth Warren has opposed the latest Senate version of the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act, warning that the crypto market structure bill fails to address conflicts of interest tied to President Donald Trump and his family’s digital asset ventures.

Warren, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, released her statement after the committee’s Republican majority published the latest text of the bill ahead of a scheduled markup on Thursday.

The CLARITY Act is designed to create a federal framework for digital asset markets, including rules for token classification, crypto trading platforms, stablecoins, decentralized finance and law enforcement authority. The bill is one of the crypto industry’s top legislative priorities in 2026.

 the draft puts investors, national security and the financial system at risk. She also argued that the bill does not include protections to prevent elected officials or their families from profiting from crypto-related businesses.

She said President Trump and his family have gained at least $1.4 billion from crypto deals during his current term and said committee members should not support a bill that does not address those conflicts.

Warren Criticizes Ethics Gap in Crypto Bill

 does not contain broad conflict-of-interest language covering government officials and crypto ventures. That omission has become one of the main objections among Democrats as the bill moves toward committee consideration.

Warren said the legislation should include safeguards preventing political figures from benefiting from crypto businesses while shaping digital asset rules. Her position adds pressure to Senate negotiators who are trying to keep the bill moving while avoiding provisions that the White House says unfairly target the president.

Several Democrats have said stronger ethics provisions are needed before they support a final version. The bill would eventually need at least some Democratic support to reach the 60 votes required in the full Senate.

Warren’s opposition comes as several large labor organizations also urge senators to vote against the bill. The AFL-CIO, Service Employees International Union, American Federation of Teachers, National Education Association and AFSCME sent letters and emails to Senate Banking Committee members ahead of Thursday’s vote.

The unions said the bill could expose workers’ retirement plans, public pensions and savings accounts to digital asset volatility. They argued that weaker crypto rules could allow the industry to take larger risks while shifting losses to retirees and working households.

The AFL-CIO separately warned that placing crypto and digital assets deeper into the real economy without stronger regulation could benefit issuers and platforms at the expense of workers.

The labor groups’ position adds another layer of resistance to the bill. Their concerns center on retirement security, pension exposure and whether digital assets should become more connected to mainstream financial products before stricter rules are in place.

 would reduce uncertainty by placing digital asset markets under clearer federal rules. Critics say the current text still leaves gaps in consumer protection, ethics standards and financial safeguards.

Banks and Crypto Firms Split Over Stablecoin Rewards

Traditional banks are also pushing for changes to the CLARITY Act, especially around stablecoin rewards. The American Bankers Association has urged bank executives to contact lawmakers and press for stronger language before the markup.

ABA President and CEO Rob Nichols said the current draft has improved but still does not fully prevent crypto firms from offering interest-like rewards on payment stablecoins. He warned that those programs could encourage deposits to leave banks for stablecoin products.

The current text restricts passive yield tied only to holding payment stablecoins or balances that function like interest-bearing bank deposits. Crypto firms have supported room for rewards linked to active use, payments and customer programs.

Coinbase has backed the revised compromise after raising concerns about earlier language. Banking groups continue to argue that the compromise leaves too much flexibility for crypto platforms.

Supporters of the bill include Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor, who said the CLARITY Act could open the next phase of digital capital, digital credit and digital equity markets. He argued that the legislation would support institutional validation for Bitcoin and related financial products.

The Senate Banking Committee is scheduled to mark up and vote on the bill Thursday. If approved, the CLARITY Act would still need to move through the full Senate and be reconciled with related legislation before reaching the president’s desk.

BTC is trading inside a marked resistance area on the daily chart shared by Super฿ro, while the setup shows price reacting to several long-term “magnet” trendlines.

The left side of the chart shows BTC recovering from its February low and pushing toward the green 0.5 trendline. Price has already moved above the lower magnet lines and now sits near the next major diagonal level.

The chart marks the current area as important because BTC has reached the same zone where previous rallies slowed. A clean move above this region would put the next magnet levels in focus, including the yellow 0.618 line and the red 0.75 line higher on the chart.

The right side of the chart shows BTC holding inside a gray range after a strong April recovery. The chart also highlights an incoming bullish cross, with shorter moving averages rising toward longer moving averages.

That bullish cross would add technical support to the recovery if price holds the range. It would also show that short-term momentum has started to shift above the wider moving average structure.

However, BTC still needs confirmation. If price fails to break the gray range, the chart suggests BTC may keep moving sideways before another attempt at the higher magnet lines.

BTC Price Faces $79,537 Resistance as Chart Splits Between Downside Roadmap and Bullish Alternative

BTC is testing a key short-term resistance area near $79,537, according to the 1-hour BTC/USD chart shared by Man of Bitcoin.

The chart labels the recent upside move as a 3-wave structure. That keeps the analyst focused on the white downside roadmap, which shows BTC rejecting below resistance before moving toward lower support levels.

The main resistance sits near $79,537. A rejection from that area could keep BTC inside the corrective setup and put the lower Fibonacci zone back in focus.

The chart marks downside levels near $72,936, $71,345, $69,785, and $67,626. A deeper move could also bring the wider support near $64,974 back into view.

However, the chart also includes an orange alternative scenario. That path remains valid as long as BTC holds above $77,115.

If BTC stays above that level and pushes through $79,537, the alternative setup could point toward higher resistance near the red zone above $86,000.

 like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, and Solana on a weekly basis, an early sign that buyers are stepping in even as price action appears subdued. This form of relative strength often signals accumulation beneath the surface rather than weakness.

The focus now shifts to structure. A clean break above $1.50, backed by strong volume, could flip the narrative fast, drawing in momentum traders and pushing price toward the next resistance zones.
