WTI crude oil moved sharply higher on Thursday, rising to $111.29 per barrel, while Brent traded at $107.57 as the market adjusted to a prolonged disruption around the Strait of Hormuz. The move reversed the usual relationship between the two benchmarks, with WTI trading above Brent during a period of severe supply stress.

 at a premium to WTI because it reflects seaborne oil flows and tends to react more directly to global supply shocks. The latest inversion suggests a shift in how the market is valuing near-term barrels. Traders are placing a higher premium on crude that is accessible and can move without passing through the Strait.

Part of the spread move is tied to contract timing. WTI’s front-month contract still reflects May delivery, while Brent has already rolled to June. That affects the headline comparison. Even so, the deeper market signal points to acute prompt tightness and a stronger bid for barrels that can be loaded and delivered without direct shipping exposure to the Gulf chokepoint.

Strait Disruption Pushes Focus Toward Available Barrels

The Strait of Hormuz normally handles about 20% of global oil flows. With tanker traffic sharply reduced and shipments effectively stalled, the market has been forced to reassess which crude supplies are actually available. In that setting, WTI has gained what traders describe as a security premium.

 the United States would hit Iran “extremely hard” within weeks, while offering no clear operational path to reopen the Strait. Those comments pushed oil prices higher by more than 10% as the market priced in a longer disruption window. Later reports from Iranian state news agency IRNA said Tehran was working with Oman on a protocol to monitor transit through the waterway, which helped prices pull back from session extremes.

Brent is still carrying geopolitical risk pricing, but it remains linked to waterborne trade. When shipping lanes are constrained, that benchmark can lose some of its immediacy in reflecting deliverable supply. WTI, by contrast, represents US crude that can still move through available domestic and export channels.

Other physically accessible grades were also strengthened. Murban crude rose nearly 10% in the same session, matching the broader demand for barrels outside the disruption zone. The spread between WTI and Brent captured that change in market preference.

Market Reaction Extends Beyond the Headline Price Spike

US West Texas Intermediate crude futures for May were up 10% at $110.22 a barrel by late morning in New York trading, while Brent crude for June rose more than 6% to $107.35. The move followed Trump’s national address, in which he said the war would not last long but also made clear that further military action remained on the table.

That combination left markets balancing two opposing forces. On one side, the supply disruption remains active, and tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is still under pressure. On the other hand, there are early reports that regional channels are discussing ways to manage transit and limit further escalation.

European officials are also discussing the possibility of a coalition to restore flows through the Strait. That remains under consideration, but for now the oil market is responding mainly to what is already constrained rather than to what could reopen later.

Technical Structure Stays Bullish Above Key Fibonacci Levels

From a chart perspective, WTI has also broken through several important retracement levels. Price climbed back above the psychological $100 area and reclaimed the 0.618 Fibonacci level near $101.65, extending a broader continuation structure after the earlier pullback found support in the $84 to $88 region.

The move through $90.71, $94.89, $98.27, and then $101.65 suggests the prior decline was corrective rather than a trend reversal. WTI is now pressing into the next resistance zone near $106.45, with the previous high around $112.58 back in view.

Daily candlestick structure remains firm, with recent pullbacks staying shallow relative to the size of the advance. Momentum indicators remain in positive territory, although the pace has eased from the rally's strongest phase. As long as WTI holds above $101.65, the higher-price structure remains in place. If that level gives way, the first lower areas to watch are $98.27 and $94.89.

By harnessing blockchain, the initiative aims to streamline cross-border payments, cut processing times, and boost transparency, overcoming long-standing inefficiencies in traditional banking.

Ripple’s president recently emphasized that the XRP Ledger could empower billions by enabling

Solana charts from two analysts point to the same problem. Short term weakness remains in place, while the broader structure still shows fading momentum.

Solana is trying to stabilize, but neither chart shows a clear bullish shift yet. Instead, both setups suggest that any recovery still needs strong confirmation before the trend can improve.

Solana Stays Under Pressure as Chart Points to Further Near Term Weakness

Solana remained under pressure on the one hour chart shared by More Crypto Online, with price holding near $78.91 after another move lower. The chart and accompanying post both pointed to continued downside in the near term, while the analyst said the next bounce will likely decide whether the structure starts to improve or stays weak.

The main short term focus now sits on the next recovery attempt. According to the chart, the first notable resistance zone stands between $82.22 and $85.94. That range includes several Fibonacci levels marked at 23.6%, 38.2%, and 50.0%. As a result, any rebound into that area could face selling pressure if buyers fail to regain control.

At the same time, the chart shows Solana trading close to a lower support area around $77.91. Below that, the next marked downside levels appear near $75.37 and $71.91. The broader shaded support zone on the chart stretches lower, which suggests the analyst still sees room for price to test deeper levels if the current floor breaks.

The wave labels on the chart also show that the market structure remains incomplete. That matters because the analyst is watching whether the next bounce develops as a corrective move or a stronger impulsive move. In simple terms, a corrective bounce would likely mean only temporary relief before another leg lower. An impulsive recovery, however, could signal that sellers are losing control and that the structure is starting to shift.

For now, the chart does not show that shift yet. Instead, it shows a market still moving lower after repeated failed recoveries. Therefore, the next reaction around the $82.22 to $85.94 resistance band may become the key test for Solana’s short term direction. Until then, the tone of the setup remains cautious, with downside pressure still leading the structure shown on the chart.

Solana Chart Shows Tight Range as Momentum Stays Weak

The Solana 14 day chart shared by James Easton presents a market that has moved into a narrowing downward channel after a long advance. The setup suggests consolidation, but the slope of that range still points lower. Price action inside the purple band has made a series of lower highs and lower lows, which usually reflects fading strength rather than a fresh breakout attempt.

The structure matters more than any single candle here. Solana climbed sharply in earlier phases of the chart, then shifted into a broad sideways to downward pattern. Since the peak shown in late 2024 to early 2025, the chart has stopped trending higher and started moving within a controlled descending path. That usually means buyers are still active, but they are no longer in full control.

The indicators under the chart also lean weak. The upper momentum line has started to turn up from a depressed area, which may hint at a possible short term rebound. However, it still sits in a low zone, so the signal remains early and unconfirmed. At the same time, the lower indicator panel shows negative histogram bars and bearish separation in the moving lines. That combination suggests downside momentum has not fully cleared.

Taken together, the chart shows a market trying to stabilize, not one that has clearly reversed. The descending channel remains the main pattern to watch. If Solana keeps trading inside that range, the broader tone stays cautious. For sentiment to improve, the chart would need a stronger move through the upper boundary of the channel, backed by firmer momentum signals.

For now, the image supports a simple reading. Solana still looks technically heavy on this timeframe, even if momentum is trying to recover from weak levels.

SWIFT’s New Payments Push Puts Ripple Back in the Spotlight

SWIFT’s latest announcement is gaining widespread attention across the financial sector, not just for its scale, but for what it signals about the future of global payments. 

, at least 30 of them have partnered with Ripple with the new SWIFT’s retail payments framework designed to modernize and streamline cross-border transactions.

SWIFT’s “Global Payments Framework for Consumer Payments” is slated to roll out in 2026, bringing together more than 50 participating banks. 

By mid-2026, over 25 key payment corridors are expected to go live, covering major routes across India, the UAE, Pakistan, Australia, the UK, the US, China, and Thailand. 

The framework is designed to deliver predictable fees, full-value transfers without deductions, end-to-end transaction visibility, near-instant settlement where possible, and full alignment with ISO 20022 messaging standards.

At face value, this reflects SWIFT reinforcing its position as the backbone of international banking, but it has also fueled discussion in crypto and fintech circles about blockchain-based alternatives like Ripple and its RippleNet network, which aim to streamline cross-border payments with faster settlement and lower friction.

SWIFT’s Evolution Meets Ripple’s Reach: How Global Banks Are Bridging Traditional Payments and Blockchain Infrastructure

 already have ties to Ripple’s ecosystem. Akbank was among the early adopters of Ripple-based blockchain payments in Turkey, while ANZ Bank tested Ripple’s protocol as early as 2015 to improve cross-border transfers. 

In India, Axis Bank has run live RippleNet corridors since 2017, and Bank Alfalah has leveraged Ripple-powered infrastructure for UAE–Pakistan remittances since 2021.

Beyond these, institutions such as Santander, BBVA, Standard Chartered, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and State Bank of India have all explored or integrated Ripple’s technology in different capacities. 

Global players including Bank of America, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, and JPMorgan Chase have also participated in blockchain pilots and related initiatives, underscoring the broader industry shift toward modernized payment infrastructure.

Earlier this year, Deutsche Bank combined 

with SWIFT to develop an enhanced ledger aimed at speeding up and streamlining cross-border payments, highlighting how traditional messaging systems are increasingly integrating with distributed ledger technology.

Furthermore, banking giants like Morgan Stanley have openly explored 

 based on discussions around more efficiency and lower-cost settlement models.

With SWIFT already handling tens of millions of messages daily across a vast global network, the direction of travel appears less about competition and more about convergence. 

Therefore, the growing intersection between SWIFT’s established rails and 

 points to a payments ecosystem that is gradually being reshaped from within, rather than replaced outright.

SWIFT’s efforts to modernize its global payments infrastructure, alongside Ripple’s expanding footprint across banking corridors, reflect a broader shift in how financial institutions are rethinking cross-border settlement. 

Rather than a winner-takes-all outcome, the growing overlap points to a gradual convergence toward faster, more transparent, and interoperable payment systems. 

As major institutions, including those linked to firms like Morgan Stanley, continue exploring blockchain-enabled efficiencies, the industry’s direction is becoming clearer: reducing friction in global value transfer. 

In this evolving landscape, distributed ledger technology is not positioned to replace legacy systems like SWIFT, but to complement and enhance them, paving the way for a hybrid financial ecosystem where traditional networks and blockchain solutions operate side by side.
