Telegram has applied to operate the .gram top-level domain, a move that could give its more than one billion users personal web addresses tied to their Telegram usernames.
Founder Pavel Durov said approval could allow addresses such as yourname.gram. The application was submitted during ICANN’s 2026 expansion round, the first new generic top-level domain window since 2012.
What Telegram Could Do With .gram
Under the plan, Telegram users could connect their existing handles to websites hosted by the company.
Durov also said users could generate interactive pages with a single AI prompt. That would extend Telegram usernames beyond messaging and turn them into web identities.
The concept differs from corporate domains operated by companies such as Google and Amazon because Telegram wants ordinary users to receive their own addresses.
ICANN has not approved .gram yet. Applications now face evaluation, possible objections, contention resolution and contracting, meaning a launch is unlikely in the near term.
Telegram has not disclosed whether .gram addresses would be free or how they would be distributed.
GRAM Price Shows Little Reaction
The announcement has so far had limited impact on Gram (GRAM).
The token was trading near $1.32, with a market capitalization of about $3.65 billion. It remains far below its June 2024 high of $8.25 despite Telegram continuing to expand its blockchain ecosystem.
Telegram has also been adding crypto-related services, including wallet functionality and deeper integration with the network formerly associated with Toncoin.
If approved, .gram would give Telegram another way to connect usernames, websites and digital assets under one identity system.
