Breeze Airways Cancels Providence to Cancún Flights
One of the more interesting cancellations involves Breeze Airways' service between Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport in Providence and Cancún International Airport in Mexico.
The route launched in February of 2026 as a limited seasonal service, with flights operating through April. Breeze initially planned to resume the connection on Dec. 19, 2026, and continue operating through March 20, 2027.
However, the airline removed those planned flights from its schedule, leaving Providence without a scheduled international nonstop service.
Passenger demand was likely a major factor. According to US Department of Transportation data, the route transported just 1,364 round-trip passengers and recorded an average seat occupancy rate of 49.8%.
The service also captured less than 11% of passengers traveling between Providence and Cancún, which suggests that most travelers preferred alternative connections.
More Breeze Airways Routes Face Cancellation
The Providence cancellation is part of bigger network adjustments affecting domestic routes across states including Florida, Colorado and New York. Another affected service connects Tri-Cities Regional Airport in Tennessee with Washington Dulles International Airport.
Breeze confirmed that the route, introduced in December 2025, would end on Nov. 30, 2026, after failing to meet passenger expectations. However, its nonstop flights between Tri-Cities and Orlando will continue operating.

The airline has also made temporary service suspensions and frequency reductions on other routes, although these changes should not be confused with permanent cancellations.
Why Is Breeze Airways Canceling Routes?
Despite the cancellations, Breeze Airways is still expanding its operations throughout 2026. The carrier introduced approximately 60 domestic routes and eight international connections between January and October. It also announced plans for another 16 routes in 2027.
This expansion suggests the cancellations are part of a strategy to redirect resources toward destinations with stronger demand rather than an indication that the airline is abandoning its growth plans.
For passengers, however, the changes could mean longer journeys, additional connections or the need to travel through alternative airports.
