Key takeaways
- Ripple returns 700 million XRP to escrow
- Three transactions extend token lockups into 2029
- Remaining 300 million XRP does not confirm selling
Ripple has returned 700 million XRP to escrow following its November 1 release of 1 billion tokens, worth approximately $1.25 billion, leaving a net 300 million XRP outside the company's time-locked reserves.
According to XRPL Insights' transaction records, three new escrow contracts were created between 17:38 and 17:42 UTC on November 1, hours after two earlier transactions released 500 million XRP each.
The development updates our previous escrow report, which examined the initial release and declining exchange balances before the subsequent re-locking was completed.
Ripple Returns 700 Million XRP to Escrow in Three Transactions
On-chain records show that Ripple-controlled wallets created three escrow contracts containing 100 million, 500 million and another 100 million XRP.
The first two contracts, totaling 600 million XRP, become eligible for release on June 1, 2029. The remaining 100 million XRP is scheduled for July 1, 2029.
These transactions reduced November's net escrow release to 300 million XRP, matching the amount left outside escrow following September and October's monthly cycles.
The outcome also resolves uncertainty surrounding Ripple's previously reported unlocked XRP, when company-controlled wallets retained substantial balances ahead of November.
Following the latest cycle, XRP Insights reported approximately 31.1 billion XRP locked across 99 Ripple-owned escrow objects.
Does 300 Million Unlocked XRP Mean More Selling?
The remaining 300 million XRP represents a reduction in locked supply, not proof that Ripple transferred those tokens to cryptocurrency exchanges.
Escrow completion makes tokens available to their designated recipient, but subsequent sales require separate transactions.
That distinction explains why previous XRP unlocks did not automatically trigger price crashes.
The latest re-locking also follows Ripple's established distribution mechanism, introduced in 2017 to make XRP supply more predictable.
According to historical escrow records, Ripple released 12 billion XRP over the past 12 monthly cycles and returned 8.4 billion, or 70%, to new contracts.
The remaining 3.6 billion XRP represents the cumulative reduction in locked supply, without establishing how much entered public trading.
XRP Investors Watch Exchange Balances and December Unlock
The latest transactions arrive during a difficult period for XRP investors, with the token trading near $1.26 after October's broader cryptocurrency downturn.
Institutional demand has provided limited protection, as XRP ETFs accumulated approximately $1.81 billion in inflows while underlying holdings declined in value.
Meanwhile, Ripple's shrinking escrow balance has become an increasingly important supply metric, particularly as investors assess the company's remaining locked reserves.
