The change took effect on Monday, April 25. The previous upgrade took place on February 2, when the block size grew from 72 KB to 80 KB.

“This 10% increase represents a significant network enhancement which will help continue to increase throughput and DApp performance,” announced Cardano development firm Input Output. The team also said they would continue monitoring network performance for at least five days to determine the next increment.

The new block size increase is the latest in a series of planned network optimizations of the Basho era of Cardano development. Apart from improving the underlying performance, the Basho stage will introduce sidechains, which will increase the network capacity and serve as a testing ground for experimental features.
