Declaration of Monetary Independence at Bitcoin 2022

The attendees of the biggest crypto event in history can sign a gigantic version of the document that drives home the ethos Bitcoin was built on.

Bitcoin 2022 has many head-turning features, from a 3000-pound charging bull to a volcano. Today, the organizers announced another addition in the form of a 6ft x 9ft Declaration of Monetary Independence, created by the Bitcoin community in October 2021 to reiterate Bitcoin’s reasons for divorcing money from state institutions.

The document resembles the United States Declaration of Independence in font, style, and the opening sentence. It reads:

When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the monetary bonds which have enslaved them to a fiat system of government decree, and to assume complete sovereignty over their own monetary freedom, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to this dissolution.

What follows is a criticism of fiat currencies and central banks, as well as a paean of praise for Bitcoin.

Encouraging visitors to sign the declaration, the organizers reiterate their support for the founding principles of Bitcoin, even as some observers point out that a global adoption necessitates a certain level of integration with the system fiat currencies were made for.

Those who can’t make it to Bitcoin 2022 but wish to voice their support can sign the Declaration online.
