What’s a Crypto.com Visa card?

Over the years, Crypto.com built an impressive ecosystem that includes the mobile app, digital wallet, platform token Cronos (CRO), and, most interestingly for us, a crypto Visa card. Launched in Singapore in 2018, it’s now available in the United States, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and 31 European countries.

Crypto.com Visa card is a prepaid debit card, which means that it isn’t connected to the bank account and you have to deposit money on it in the Crypto.com app. With the help of an app, you can load your card with cryptocurrency or fiat, upgrade tier, check the balance, message support, and manage cashback.

The card has five tiers with quirky names like Midnight Blue, Ruby Steel, Royal Indigo & Jade Green, Frosted Rose Gold & Icy White, and Obsidian, with the latter ranking the highest. All cards are metal, except for the plastic Midnight Blue. However, you don’t need to carry around the physical card – instead, add it to your Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung pay and enjoy mobile payments!

How to get a Crypto.com card?

You can register for a card on the Crypto.com app after completing KYC verification, but to get it, you’d need to stake CRO for 180 days. The amount of CRO depends on the card tier you chose, but it can also be expressed in local fiat currency, so there’s no need to buy coins. However, staking requirements do not apply to the Midnight Blue card – you can order it right away.

Cashback and benefits with Crypto.com card

Both cashback and benefits depend on the amount of CRO staked. You can get a maximum of 8% back on spending with an Obsidian card, but even a Midnight Blue will earn you a shy 1%. There are no requirements for minimum or maximum spending – you will always get your % back in CRO coins, which you can keep or convert to fiat or another crypto in the app.

There is also a number of bonuses that include a 100% rebate on Spotify, Netflix, and Amazon Prime, 10% cashback for Expedia and Airbnb, airport lounge access, exclusive merchandise, and others. Note that you will lose your benefits if the stake is unlocked, but you will still get up to 2% cash back depending on the card tier.

Crypto.com card fees and limits

Unlike many other debit cards, the Crypto.com Visa card doesn’t charge any maintenance fees. The limit on free ATM withdrawal ranges from $200 to $1,000, with a 2% commission thereafter.

Depending on your location and card tier, you can also enjoy a fixed amount of free currency exchange transactions per month, and pay 0.5% after the limit is exceeded.

Crypto.com card, who is it best for?

If you want to pay with crypto for products and services across the world without any fees, this card may be for you. However, there is a number of things that can be improved.

Firstly, the basic Midnight Blue doesn’t provide any benefits except 1% cashback, while other cards require to stake CRO for 180 days and keep it staked to enjoy most rewards.

Secondly, you won’t get cashback on a number of goods and services, including utilities, software, souvenirs, and insurance.

Finally, there are limits on how much you can deposit, withdraw, or spend with your card, depending on the tier. For a Midnight Blue, the maximum balance is just $25,000 and the limit on monthly spending is $15,000.

However, if by any chance you got an extra $40,000 to stake and enjoy all the benefits offered by Frosted Rose Gold & Icy White, this card may be an ideal pick for you.
