XRP Ledger Lending Upgrade Remains 8 Validator Votes Short as November 8 Support Stalls at 60%

XRP Ledger lending remains at 21 of 35 validator votes on November 8, while SingleAssetVault leads at 23. Native lending still needs a 14-day majority.

Key takeaways

  • XRPL lending remains eight validator votes below threshold
  • SingleAssetVault leads lending proposals with 23 validator approvals
  • Native lending activation still requires sustained supermajority support

The XRP Ledger's proposed native lending protocol remains stalled at 60% validator support as of November 8, with no additional approvals since November 6 despite earlier progress toward activating the network's decentralized credit infrastructure.

According to the November 8 XRPL amendment snapshot, the LendingProtocol amendment has 21 supporting votes from 35 trusted validators. It needs 29 approvals to begin the mandatory two-week activation countdown, leaving the proposal eight votes short.

The result follows a November 6 increase from 19 to 21 approvals, when validator support reached 60% for the first time in the latest voting cycle.

XRPL Lending Stalls While Vault Upgrade Leads With 23 Votes

Three separate amendments underpin the proposed XRP Ledger lending infrastructure, and none has secured sufficient support for activation.

LendingProtocol and LendingProtocolV1_1 each hold 21 approvals, representing 60% of the validators included in the latest snapshot.

SingleAssetVault has attracted slightly stronger support, with 23 votes, equivalent to approximately 65.7%. The vault amendment therefore needs six additional approvals, compared with eight for the two lending proposals.

The difference matters because activating vault infrastructure alone would not make the complete lending protocol available.

The proposals have made progress since October 29, when XRPL's amendment backlog showed lending support remaining ten approvals below the required majority.

However, the November 8 snapshot recorded no new majority or activation events involving the lending amendments.

Why Native Lending Still Cannot Launch on XRP Ledger

The proposed XLS-66 Lending Protocol would allow fixed-term loans to be originated and managed directly through XRP Ledger functionality.

Unlike decentralized lending systems that depend primarily on automated collateral liquidation, the proposed framework relies on off-chain underwriting to evaluate borrowers and manage credit risk.

SingleAssetVault would provide the underlying pooled assets, allowing depositors to contribute XRP or eligible issued tokens and receive vault shares representing their positions.

LendingProtocolV1_1 adds further capabilities, including closed-ended vault structures and cash-basis accounting for loan repayments.

The development is potentially relevant to Ripple's institutional financing strategy, where native lending could support additional credit products using XRP and tokenized assets.

However, the new features remain unavailable on mainnet, and no activation date has been established.

November Security Upgrade Goes Live as Lending Waits

The stalled lending vote contrasts with the successful activation of XRPL's fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment on November 4.

That security upgrade addressed token-permission issues and improved calculations involving automated market makers, escrow and future lending infrastructure.

Its activation did not enable the underlying lending protocol, which requires independent validator approval.

Under XRPL governance rules, amendments must maintain support from more than 80% of trusted validators for two consecutive weeks. If backing drops below the required threshold, the approval countdown resets.

The network previously demonstrated this mechanism when a separate XRPL upgrade delay interrupted an activation countdown in October.
