Key takeaways
- Hyperliquid Strategies holds $3.5B in HYPE tokens
- Company files for US futures merchant registration
- Quarterly profit driven largely by unrealized token gains
Hyperliquid Strategies is pushing deeper into regulated US markets after building one of the largest token treasuries in crypto, using its growing HYPE holdings as the financial base for a new expansion plan.
According to the company’s November 5 earnings release, Hyperliquid Strategies held approximately 38.52 million HYPE tokens worth $3.505 billion as of September 30. The Nasdaq-listed firm also reported $254.6 million in cash and cash-like instruments, alongside zero debt.
$3.5 Billion HYPE Treasury Becomes Strategic Asset
The balance sheet shows how aggressively the company has tied its future to Hyperliquid’s ecosystem. Total assets reached $3.764 billion at the end of the quarter, with HYPE accounting for the overwhelming majority.
That structure makes Hyperliquid Strategies less like a traditional operating company and more like a publicly traded vehicle for gaining exposure to HYPE. Its earlier $1.5 billion equity-facility expansion provided additional capacity to finance token purchases, although the facility did not guarantee new capital would be raised.
The company deployed $802 million during the third quarter, including $785 million to acquire 9.1 million additional HYPE tokens and $17 million to repurchase 2.7 million PURR shares.
FCM Filing Opens Door to Regulated US Markets
The more important long-term development may be regulatory rather than financial.
Hyperliquid Strategies said a subsidiary has filed an application to become a futures commission merchant (FCM). If approved, the subsidiary would carry US client accounts for permissioned markets deployed on Hyperliquid under the proposed HIP-3 framework.
In practical terms, the company wants to participate in bringing Hyperliquid-based perpetual futures into the regulated US financial system, expanding beyond its existing token treasury strategy.
The application comes shortly after NYSE owner Intercontinental Exchange announced a Hyperliquid-linked trading partnership with Trade[XYZ], another initiative aimed at developing regulated US perpetual futures markets.
However, Hyperliquid Strategies has not received FCM approval. The company explicitly warned that neither the timing nor the outcome of its application is guaranteed, and permissioned HIP-3 markets would require separate regulatory acceptance.
$620 Million Quarterly Profit Masks Heavy Dependence on HYPE
Hyperliquid Strategies reported $620.6 million in net income for the third quarter, but the headline figure does not represent an equivalent amount of recurring operating profit.
The company generated $12.3 million in staking revenue and validator commissions, alongside $1 million in interest income.
Its much larger reported profit was primarily driven by $803 million in unrealized gains on HYPE holdings, partially offset by a $172.3 million income tax provision and $15.3 million in expenses related to its equity financing facility.
The distinction matters because unrealized gains can reverse when token prices decline. Hyperliquid Strategies remains highly exposed to HYPE's market performance, even as it develops other potential revenue streams.
The company reported approximately $834 million in value accruing to the broader Hyperliquid ecosystem during the twelve months ending September 30, much of it linked to trading activity and token buybacks.
