AI Agents Process 13.5 Million Payments on XRP Ledger

According to XRPL AI Hub, the platform recorded around 13.49 million agentic transactions across 168 registered merchants in October. However, the figures also reveal an important distinction: transaction counts are growing rapidly, while the total value transferred remains relatively modest.

XRP Ledger AI Payments Jump From 1 Million to 13.5 Million

RippleX engineering head J. Ayo Akinyele highlighted the growing adoption of autonomous payments in early October, with agentic transactions reportedly accounting for approximately 25% of XRP Ledger activity during an unspecified period.

The milestone represents a substantial increase from July, when XRPL's AI payment ecosystem crossed one million transactions. By early September, the network had already recorded nearly four million payments, as previously documented in Coinpaper's XRPL adoption coverage.

Agentic payments allow autonomous software to purchase digital services without requiring manual approval for every transaction. Through the x402 protocol, AI agents can pay for API access, computing resources and AI inference using XRP or RLUSD.

The infrastructure builds on the earlier x402 integration, which introduced automated blockchain payments for software agents.

Millions of Transactions, but How Much Money Actually Moved?

Despite the rapid growth, settlement figures present a more complicated picture. Around the October milestone, XRPL AI Hub reported approximately 6,982 XRP and 12,010 RLUSD in cumulative settlements.

These amounts are relatively small compared with the number of recorded transactions, suggesting much of the activity involves microtransactions rather than substantial commercial transfers. The data also does not establish how many payments involved independent customers or recurring transactions between automated systems.

This distinction matters because transaction growth alone does not necessarily demonstrate widespread commercial adoption. Sustained settlement volume and expanding participation from paying customers would provide stronger evidence.

Can AI Agents Become a Major Source of XRP Demand?

Ripple introduced its XRPL AI Starter Kit in June, providing developers with tools for autonomous payments, wallet integration and transaction settlement. The system supports both XRP and RLUSD, allowing software to choose between native cryptocurrency transfers and dollar-denominated payments.

As Coinpaper explained in its XRP vs. RLUSD analysis, the two assets serve different purposes. RLUSD offers more predictable pricing for digital services, while XRP enables native value transfers and covers network transaction fees.
