Aave Labs has acquired the team and technology behind fixed-rate lending startup Avon, expanding its decentralized finance capabilities as the Aave network surpasses $33 billion in deposits and $13 billion in active loans.

According to Aave's November 6 announcement, the acquisition includes Avon's fixed-rate and floating-rate lending protocols, an onchain order book, and related intellectual property. Financial terms were not disclosed, and Aave has not announced when the technology will become available to borrowers.

The deal comes one day after Kraken parent Payward disclosed purchases of AAVE tokens, adding another institutional development to the lending protocol's expansion.

Aave Targets Fixed-Rate Loans With Avon Acquisition

Avon developed technology designed to support lending markets where borrowers and lenders can agree on interest rates for defined periods rather than relying exclusively on rates that fluctuate with market demand.

That distinction could prove important for Aave, whose existing lending markets primarily use variable borrowing rates. Fixed-rate products would give borrowers greater certainty over financing costs, making decentralized lending more comparable to conventional credit markets.

Aave Labs acquired Avon's lending protocols, onchain order book, domains and related assets. Founder Prince Sinha and engineer Ayush Kaul will join Aave's engineering team, while Omar el-Ashaal will join business development.

An order book could help match lenders and borrowers at agreed rates, addressing one of the challenges of developing fixed-term credit products without traditional intermediaries.

The acquisition builds on Aave's recent institutional lending expansion, which introduced specialized markets supporting Ripple's RLUSD and PayPal's PYUSD stablecoins.

Kraken Parent Buys AAVE as Deposits Top $33 Billion

Aave's expansion follows another significant development involving Kraken's parent company, Payward.

On November 5, Payward announced that an affiliated investment fund and participating clients had acquired an undisclosed quantity of AAVE tokens through secondary-market transactions.

The institutional token purchases did not represent an equity investment in Aave Labs, and Payward has not disclosed the transaction's value.

Together, the developments suggest growing interest in Aave's potential to support more sophisticated lending products for institutional and fintech customers.

Aave reported more than $33 billion in deposits and $13 billion in active loans, making it one of the largest decentralized lending networks.

The network has also expanded through Aave V4, which recently surpassed $1.5 billion in deposits, according to the project's November development update.

Fixed-Rate Expansion Could Broaden DeFi Adoption

Fixed-rate lending could make Aave more appealing to borrowers who need predictable repayment costs, particularly businesses and institutions managing long-term financing obligations.

However, the acquisition does not immediately create new lending markets or guarantee that fixed-rate products will attract substantial demand.

Aave has not disclosed a deployment timetable, supported assets, borrowing terms or the governance approvals potentially required for future products.

The distinction matters as AAVE token prices have previously weakened despite expansion across the underlying lending network.
