Key takeaways
- Zcash surges over 10% ahead of NU7 activation
- Network upgrade targets threefold faster block confirmation times
- Rising futures interest contrasts with institutional ETF withdrawals
ZEC traded near $1,278 during Wednesday's morning session, gaining approximately 12.4% over 24 hours after recovering from the previous day's selloff. The advance follows an extended Zcash price correction, which pushed the privacy-focused cryptocurrency substantially below September's highs.
According to the Zcash Foundation, Network Upgrade 7 (NU7) is scheduled to activate at block 3,543,405, expected around November 5.
Zcash's NU7 Upgrade Promises Threefold Faster Blocks
The approaching upgrade introduces one of Zcash's most significant network changes of 2026.
NU7 reduces target block spacing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, allowing transactions to receive confirmations more quickly without increasing daily ZEC issuance.
The upgrade also introduces a Network Sustainability Mechanism that temporarily removes 60% of transaction fees from circulation, reserving those funds for future mining rewards.
Importantly, the mechanism does not reduce Zcash's 21 million token supply cap or permanently burn the affected fees.
The changes follow earlier Zcash security improvements, which addressed vulnerabilities affecting shielded transactions.
Zebra 7.0.0, released October 22, also fixes seven security issues and prepares node operators for the transition.
The upgrade could improve network usability, but faster confirmations do not automatically create additional demand for ZEC.
ZEC Futures Interest Rises Despite ETF Withdrawals
Derivatives positioning suggests speculative interest is returning.
According to CoinGlass data, ZEC futures open interest reached approximately 2.17 million tokens on November 4, compared with 1.96 million on Sunday.
The increase follows an earlier Zcash short squeeze, when leveraged traders were forced to close bearish positions during the cryptocurrency's September rally.
However, institutional flows tell a different story.
Zcash-focused investment products reportedly recorded withdrawals of $3.58 million and $3.63 million across the previous two sessions.
The divergence resembles an earlier ZEC rebound despite ETF selling, highlighting how derivatives activity and fund demand can move in opposite directions.
Rising open interest also increases liquidation risks if the rally reverses.
Zcash Price Prediction: Can ZEC Reach $1,400?
ZEC's immediate technical challenge is overcoming resistance around $1,300–$1,320, near a closely watched moving-average region.
A sustained breakout could bring $1,370 into focus, followed by the psychological $1,400 level.
That would represent approximately 9.5% upside from the $1,278 reference price.
The bullish scenario would build on earlier Zcash recovery attempts, although September's stronger momentum has not yet returned.
Conversely, failure to defend the $1,200–$1,210 area could expose $1,150 and potentially $1,100.
Previous liquidation-driven declines demonstrate how quickly ZEC can reverse when leveraged positions unwind.
