SK Hynix Earnings Blow Past Expectations
SK Hynix reported third-quarter revenue of 104.6 trillion won, or approximately $79 billion. This represents an impressive 328% increase from the previous year.
Operating profit climbed 632% to 83.3 trillion won, comfortably beating analyst expectations of approximately 76.7 trillion won. Meanwhile, net income increased 216% to 39.8 trillion won.
Press release from SK Hynix
The results were the company's first quarter with revenue exceeding 100 trillion won, and its operating profit margin reached an extraordinary 80%. Much of this growth came from surging demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, which are essential for powering advanced AI processors.
SK Hynix Announces Massive $75 Billion Shareholder Return Plan
Alongside its earnings announcement, SK Hynix revealed plans to return approximately 100 trillion won, or $75 billion, to shareholders during 2026. The program includes at least 30 trillion won in cash dividends and more than 60 trillion won in share repurchases and cancellations, including previously announced buybacks.
The company also approved a third-quarter dividend of 20,000 won per share, partly funded by gains from its investment in Japanese memory chipmaker Kioxia.
The announcement provided another boost to investor confidence after a period of weakness in SK Hynix stock.
AI Chip Demand Could Keep SK Hynix Growing Through 2030
Perhaps the most encouraging development for investors was SK Hynix's outlook for AI memory demand. The company indicated that virtually all its DRAM and HBM production capacity through 2029 is already accounted for through agreements and advanced customer discussions.
It also expects memory shortages to persist through 2030, supported by continued investment in AI infrastructure.
Meanwhile, SK Hynix plans to expand production of its next-generation HBM4 chips, which are expected to become its mainstream HBM product during the fourth quarter.
What's Next for SK Hynix Stock?
The earnings surprise certainly boosted optimism around SK Hynix's long-term growth prospects, particularly as AI infrastructure spending continues.
However, investors will be watching whether the company can sustain its exceptional profit margins while expanding manufacturing capacity.
