Solana’s Accelerate China Event Halted as Police Arrive, CZ Questions Organizers

Solana’s Accelerate China tour ran into trouble in Shanghai after police reportedly appeared at the venue and CZ questioned what went wrong.

Event

Solana’s ambitious push into mainland China hit an early obstacle after the Shanghai leg of its Accelerate China 2026 tour was abruptly suspended after reports surfaced of police officers at the venue.

Key takeaways

  • Solana’s Accelerate China event in Shanghai was suspended after reports that police officers were present at the venue
  • Binance co-founder CZ questioned whether the organizers fully understood China’s local crypto rules
  • The incident has created uncertainty around Solana’s wider China expansion

Attendees arriving at the Shanghai event on Oct. 16 reportedly found around eight or nine law enforcement officers on site, and some participants were prevented from entering for more than an hour.

Organizers later informed registered guests that the morning program was postponed because of “logistical arrangements” at the venue. No replacement time was immediately announced, while neither the Solana Foundation nor Chinese authorities publicly confirmed that regulators ordered the event to stop.

CZ Questions Solana’s Understanding of China

Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao, better known in the crypto world as CZ, quickly weighed in on the disruption. “Sad to see. Looks like they really didn't know the local policies?” CZ wrote on X. He also pointed out that a similar incident happened less than a year ago.

CZ was referring to a Solana event in Shenzhen in 2025 that was also disrupted after police conducted an on-site inquiry.

His latest comments are interesting because just one day earlier, CZ actually praised Solana’s growing presence in China.

Solana recently established an office in Shanghai and launched advertising in the city. CZ described the achievement as “amazing,” and also mentioned that BNB Chain did not manage to establish the same level of presence in mainland China.

Solana’s China Tour Now Faces Uncertainty

Shanghai was supposed to be the opening stop of a four-city Accelerate China tour focused on blockchain infrastructure, AI, payments and developer technology. Events are also scheduled for Hangzhou on Oct. 18, Shenzhen on Oct. 20 and Beijing on Oct. 22. Solana’s official website still listed those events as upcoming.

Whether the remaining Accelerate China events proceed as planned could now provide an important indication of whether the Shanghai disruption was an isolated venue issue or a bigger regulatory problem for Solana’s expansion strategy.
