Bitcoin Price Prediction: Citi's $113K Target Implies 35% Upside Despite BTC's Weak Recovery

Citi's $113K Bitcoin forecast implies roughly 35% upside as BTC struggles near $83K. Fresh $175.7M ETF inflows may help the recovery.

Bitcoin Price Prediction: Citi's $113K Target Implies 35% Upside Despite BTC's Weak Recovery

Key takeaways

  • Citi raises Bitcoin target from $82,000 to $113,000
  • Bitcoin ETF inflows rebound by $175.7 million
  • Inflation and Treasury yields threaten BTC recovery

Bitcoin's recovery remains fragile, with BTC trading around $83,400 in the October 14 reference market snapshot, approximately 35.5% below Citigroup's newly revised $113,000 price target.

The investment bank expects stronger institutional demand to support Bitcoin over the next 12 months, but recent price weakness and volatile ETF flows suggest the path toward six figures could be difficult. A fresh $175.7 million rebound in spot Bitcoin ETF inflows offers some encouragement, while U.S. inflation remains a major near-term risk.

Citi Raises Bitcoin Price Target by 38% to $113,000

Citigroup raised its 12-month Bitcoin price target from $82,000 to $113,000 on October 1, representing a 37.8% upgrade to its previous forecast.

The bank cited stronger cryptocurrency market activity, improving macroeconomic conditions and expectations that investment inflows will resume as financial advisers and brokerage firms gradually increase their Bitcoin allocations.

Citi anticipates approximately $5 billion in cryptocurrency investment inflows over the coming year, potentially providing additional demand for digital assets. However, the forecast depends on sustained investor participation rather than a single strong trading session.

Interestingly, Citi's target remains below Bitcoin's October 2025 record above $126,000. That means the bank is forecasting a substantial recovery rather than a new all-time high, even after its earlier Bitcoin outlook highlighted improving institutional sentiment.

At $83,400, Bitcoin would need to gain approximately $29,600 to reach Citi's target.

Bitcoin ETFs Attract $175.7M After Heavy Outflows

Institutional demand showed signs of improvement on October 13, when U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $175.7 million in net inflows.

According to Farside Investors, Fidelity's FBTC led with $103.1 million, followed by BlackRock's IBIT with $65.9 million. Morgan Stanley's MSBT contributed another $6.7 million.

The recovery followed $65.4 million in withdrawals on October 12 and approximately $678.9 million in net outflows during October 5–9.

This creates an important distinction between improving short-term demand and a sustainable institutional buying trend. One positive session cannot erase an entire week of withdrawals.

Furthermore, as explained in our Bitcoin ETF supply analysis, fund purchases can exceed daily mining production without guaranteeing higher prices because existing holders may simultaneously sell.

Bitcoin Price Prediction: Can BTC Break $85K?

Bitcoin's immediate technical challenge is recovering $85,000, approximately 1.9% above the reference price.

A sustained breakout could bring $90,000 into focus, requiring around 7.9% upside. Reaching $100,000 would demand a 19.9% advance, while Citi's $113,000 target implies approximately 35.5%.

However, failure to maintain support around $82,000 could expose $80,000, a psychologically significant level previously examined during Bitcoin's $680 million ETF withdrawal period.

US Inflation Could Determine Bitcoin's Next Target

The October 14 U.S. inflation release introduces another potential catalyst.

Economists surveyed by Reuters expected annual headline inflation of approximately 3.6% in September, partly reflecting higher energy prices.

An upside inflation surprise could reinforce expectations of restrictive Federal Reserve policy and elevated Treasury yields, potentially reducing demand for risk-sensitive assets.

Conversely, softer inflation could ease pressure on bond yields and support a recovery, although lower inflation would not automatically translate into Bitcoin buying.
