SpaceX’s Real Cash Cow Is Starlink, Which Hit $4.3B in Quarterly Revenue

Starlink revenue reached $4.3B in Q2 as subscribers doubled to 12M. The bigger SpaceX thesis is recurring connectivity cash funding Starship and AI.

The company’s Connectivity segment generated $4.29 billion in second-quarter revenue, up 66% from a year earlier, while operating income rose 79% to $1.66 billion.

SpaceX’s second-quarter earnings release also showed Starlink subscribers doubling from 6 million to 12 million year over year. Connectivity adjusted EBITDA reached $2.6 billion.

That is the core of the “cash cow” argument now drawing more attention from investors.

The growth is not coming only from residential broadband.

Consumer Starlink revenue reached about $2.49 billion, while enterprise and government connectivity revenue climbed to roughly $1.81 billion.

That means Starlink is increasingly tied to aviation, maritime services, mobile connectivity and government contracts rather than relying on home internet alone.

SpaceX also disclosed more than $6 billion in multi-year U.S. government contracts tied to Starshield.

The subscriber base is expanding rapidly, even as average revenue per user fell to about $66 per month from $85 a year earlier. The decline reflects lower-priced international markets, but the doubling in customers has more than offset that pressure.

Starship Could Strengthen the Model

Starship matters because it could make Starlink cheaper to expand.

SpaceX is targeting a Sept. 28 flight expected to carry 26 next-generation Starlink V3 satellites. If Starship lowers deployment costs while placing larger, higher-capacity satellites in orbit, it could improve the economics of a business that is already producing billions in recurring revenue.

That is an important shift in how investors can think about SpaceX.

The company is no longer just a long-duration bet on Mars, launch dominance or future Starship revenue. It already has a large connectivity business generating meaningful operating profit.

We have previously looked at the enormous expectations around SpaceX’s IPO valuation, as well as the rally that briefly pushed the company to a roughly $2.5 trillion market value.

SpaceX stock closed around $148.67 on Sept. 25, well below its post-IPO high above $225.
