XRPL’s Sept. 29 Upgrade Isn’t Live Yet: Why Asset Managers Care

XRPL’s Batch V1.1 is still awaiting activation, but Ripple says asset managers are already building around its atomic settlement capabilities.

XRPL’s Sept. 29 Upgrade Isn’t Live Yet: Why Asset Managers Care

XRP Ledger’s next major upgrade is still more than a week away, yet some institutions are apparently already preparing to use it.

Batch V1.1 has support from 30 of 35 tracked validators, comfortably above the 80% threshold required to keep its activation countdown running. If that support holds, the amendment is projected to activate shortly after Sept. 29.

More interestingly, RippleX says asset managers and other commercial projects are already designing products around the feature. Ayo Akinyele, RippleX’s head of engineering, told CoinDesk that projects are already being built with Batch in mind, with more details on partners expected after activation.

Why Asset Managers Care About Batch

Batch V1.1 allows an account to group up to eight transactions into a single operation.

The important part is atomic execution: developers can structure the batch so that every transaction succeeds together or the entire group fails.

For an asset manager, that could solve a basic settlement problem.

Imagine a tokenized bond being exchanged for payment. Without atomic settlement, one side of the transaction could theoretically complete while the other does not. Batch can connect the asset transfer and payment so both settle together.

That model is known as delivery-versus-payment, or DvP.

Our earlier breakdown of the Sept. 29 XRPL upgrade also showed that Batch could simplify swaps and other multi-step transactions.

This Is Batch’s Second Attempt

The institutional interest is notable because Batch V1.1 exists only after the original implementation was abandoned.

Developers disabled the first Batch amendment after discovering a critical authorization vulnerability. The replacement version was redesigned and subjected to additional security review before returning to the amendment process. The official XRPL documentation confirms that BatchV1_1 replaces the original Batch amendment and fixes the critical flaw.

That history makes the current rollout more consequential than a routine network upgrade.

XRPL is simultaneously developing other institutional infrastructure, including native lending. We recently covered how the XRPL lending protocol is still awaiting sufficient validator support.

The difference is striking: lending remains in the governance pipeline, while Batch already has enough support to be counting down toward activation.
