Bitcoin traded near $78,700 on Wednesday, Sept. 9, after repeatedly failing to reclaim the $79,500 area, leaving the market caught between a renewed push toward $82,000 and a deeper pullback. The near-term technical picture remains unsettled as traders also prepare for Friday’s U.S. inflation report, with rising oil prices adding another source of macroeconomic uncertainty.
Bitcoin Needs a Clean $79,500 Reclaim to Restore Momentum
Bitcoin’s four-hour chart shows price consolidating below $79,500 after several unsuccessful attempts to establish that level as support. That Martini Guy identified the area as the key short-term threshold separating the current range from another attempt at the recent highs.

BTC was near $78,650 on the chart, just below the horizontal $79,500 resistance. The repeated failures around that level suggest buyers have yet to produce a decisive breakout despite Bitcoin holding most of its sharp August advance.
A clean four-hour close above $79,500 would provide the first meaningful confirmation that momentum is improving. The next level highlighted by the analyst is around $82,000, where Bitcoin recently met selling pressure.
The downside becomes more important if BTC loses its current consolidation range. The chart identifies $70,500 as local support, followed by a stronger level near $67,200. A deeper decline would expose the lower range support around $63,000.
For now, the chart supports a neutral short-term reading rather than a confirmed directional move. Bitcoin remains close enough to $79,500 for a bullish reclaim, but continued rejection would leave the market vulnerable to a broader retracement.
Longer-Term Bitcoin Chart Maps a Possible Flush Before Bullish Reversal
A separate three-day BTC/USDT chart shared by Rod presents a more volatile longer-term scenario. The setup compares Bitcoin’s current structure with a previous market pattern and proposes that a sharp decline into an established support zone could precede a larger bullish reversal.

The chart places a broad support region roughly between $63,000 and $71,000, with $63,000 acting as the critical lower boundary. Rod argues that bulls would need to preserve the structure above that level for the proposed reversal scenario to remain viable.
His projected path allows for another rally attempt followed by a sharp flush into the highlighted support region. Under that scenario, a rapid recovery from the zone would serve as confirmation that buyers had absorbed the decline.
The projection eventually extends above $120,000 and toward roughly $130,000, but that move remains a hypothetical chart scenario rather than a confirmed price target. The immediate market must first establish support and break the resistance levels overhead.
Bitcoin’s macro backdrop could also influence whether those technical levels hold. Reuters reported BTC near $78,680 on Wednesday as oil prices approached $100 a barrel, increasing inflation concerns ahead of Friday’s U.S. consumer price index report.
The clearest near-term signal remains $79,500. A sustained move above it would reopen the path toward $82,000, while failure to hold the current range would shift attention toward $70,500, with $67,200 and $63,000 becoming increasingly important if selling accelerates.
