Ripple CEO Beside Trump, But the Bigger XRP Story Is His Seat at the CFTC Table

A White House photograph showing Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse standing beside President Donald Trump is circulating through the XRP community, reviving a striking question about how dramatically Ripple’s position in Washington has changed.

XRP researcher BankXRP highlighted Garlinghouse’s position directly to Trump’s right, arguing that the placement looked significant after years in which Ripple battled the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The photograph is real, but one detail needs correcting: the official White House gallery identifies the Aug. 19 gathering as a CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee launch in the Roosevelt Room, not the Oval Office. The White House separately confirmed Garlinghouse was among the executives attending that day.

The more important development, however, goes well beyond where Garlinghouse happened to stand.

Ripple now has a formal seat at the regulatory table

The CFTC officially appointed Garlinghouse to its Innovation Advisory Committee, alongside executives from Coinbase, Nasdaq, CME Group, Cboe, DTCC, Grayscale, Franklin Templeton and other major financial and crypto companies.

The committee advises the regulator on issues spanning technology, law, policy and financial markets. Garlinghouse was originally named to the body in February, while its charter was renewed on Aug. 19.

That is a materially stronger XRP angle than interpreting body position in a photograph.

The shift comes as Washington debates the CLARITY Act, legislation intended to establish clearer federal jurisdiction over digital assets. Garlinghouse has repeatedly supported moving the legislation forward, describing regulatory clarity as important for the next stage of U.S. crypto development.

The Aug. 19 White House discussion itself centered heavily on getting crypto market-structure legislation through Congress. Reporting from inside the subsequent Oval Office discussion said Trump appeared bullish on advancing CLARITY and solicited feedback from industry executives.

XRP rallies as Washington returns to focus

The renewed attention also arrives during a sharp XRP rebound.

XRP traded around $1.45 on Sept. 4, after gaining roughly 7.4% on Sept. 3. The move should not automatically be attributed to Garlinghouse’s White House comments: the broader crypto market was also rising, but the regulatory backdrop adds another catalyst for traders to watch.

Institutional XRP exposure has also become increasingly visible. U.S. XRP ETFs recently extended an 11-session inflow streak, while reported holders include major financial firms such as Goldman Sachs, Jane Street and Millennium Management.

That follows a broader transition already visible in the XRP and the CLARITY Act, XRP’s growing XRP ETF inflows and Ripple’s recent Garlinghouse's CLARITY talks.

So the photograph is symbolically powerful.

But the real story is not that Garlinghouse stood on Trump’s right.

It is that the CEO of a company that spent years fighting a federal regulator is now formally participating in discussions helping shape the next generation of U.S. financial regulation.
