Kraken Launches US Stock Trading Across Europe Alongside xStocks

Kraken is expanding beyond crypto in Europe with more than 7,000 US stocks available alongside over 700 tokenized xStocks.

Crypto exchange Kraken has expanded US stock trading across the European Economic Area (EEA). The rollout expands on Kraken’s earlier stock-trading launch in Germany, France and the Netherlands.

Kraken’s updated support page now lists customers across EEA markets including Spain, Italy, Ireland, Sweden, Austria, Portugal and Norway as eligible for the service.

Eligible customers can access more than 7,000 US-listed stocks alongside over 600 crypto assets and more than 700 xStocks, Kraken’s tokenized representations of equities. Trading is available through Kraken Pro on desktop and mobile, as well as the standard Kraken app.

Kraken says stock trading will be commission-free for eligible EEA customers, although spreads, foreign exchange costs and other fees may still apply. Customers must also complete additional eligibility steps before stock trading is enabled, including providing personal information, answering questions about their financial knowledge and certifying their tax eligibility.

Kraken Brings Traditional and Tokenized Stocks Together

The expansion sheds some light on the battle among crypto platforms and fintech brokers to combine digital assets with traditional financial markets.

Crypto.com launched tokenized stock trading for EEA users on Aug. 12, initially offering exposure to around 1,500 stocks and funds. Robinhood offers European customers access to more than 2,000 stock tokens. Bitpanda, meanwhile, expanded into traditional equities with more than 10,000 stocks, ETFs and other assets.

Kraken’s differentiator is offering traditional US-listed shares and tokenized equivalents side-by-side. The exchange says it is currently the only crypto-native platform offering both formats to European customers within one regulated trading environment.

Its xStocks products are backed 1:1 by underlying shares and can be moved into self-custody wallets and used on-chain, distinguishing them from some competing stock-token products. Kraken says xStocks have generated more than $38 billion in transaction volume since launching in June of 2025.

The stock service is provided through Payward Europe Digital Solutions (CY) Limited, which is authorized and regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission under MiFID II.

Kraken plans to expand its combined traditional and tokenized stock offering into even more markets in the coming months.
