Micron Stock Surges 12% After Bank of America Adds MU to Top Investment List

Micron Technology stock jumped after Bank of America added the chipmaker to its list of “Best Investment Ideas,” citing stronger demand for memory chips tied to artificial intelligence.

Bank of America Backs Micron on AI Memory Demand

Micron shares surged more than 10% on Tuesday as investors reacted to renewed support from Bank of America. The bank reiterated its Buy rating and raised its price target to $1,550 from $1,500.

Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya pointed to Micron’s fiscal Q3 2026 results and described the update as “another memorable beat.” The call added fresh attention to MU stock as chip investors reviewed companies linked to AI infrastructure.

Bank of America said artificial intelligence is changing the memory chip market. The firm views memory as a structural growth area rather than a purely cyclical industry.

The bank estimates memory now represents about 35% to 40% of cloud AI spending. That level is roughly two to three times higher than historical averages.

HBM Supply Constraints Support MU Outlook

High-bandwidth memory remains a key part of the Micron growth case. HBM is used in AI chips and advanced data center systems that need faster memory performance.

Bank of America expects HBM supply to remain tight through at least 2027. Continued supply limits could support pricing, margins, and earnings for Micron if AI demand keeps growing.

Memory stocks still trade at lower valuations compared with other AI-linked semiconductor names. Bank of America said this gap may leave more room for upside if investor interest shifts toward memory suppliers.

The bank also described the recent chip sector pullback as a “summer reset” rather than a change in the long-term trend. Other firms remain positive, with TD Cowen also setting a $1,500 target.

Wall Street’s consensus target for Micron stands near $1,491.95. The broader rating mix includes 31 Buy ratings and 9 Strong Buy ratings, compared with one Strong Sell rating.

UBS Sees Large Buyback Potential

UBS analysts said Micron could repurchase more than 40% of its shares by the end of 2028. The firm expects Micron to generate more than $400 billion in free cash flow through calendar year 2028.

Micron remains restricted from repurchasing shares through December 9, 2026. After that restriction expires, UBS said the company could direct free cash flow toward stock buybacks.

Such a move would reduce the share count if the company follows that capital plan. Any final decision would depend on cash flow, market conditions, and board approval.

Micron makes memory and storage products used in data centers, mobile devices, computing systems, and AI infrastructure. Its products have gained more attention as cloud firms spend more on AI hardware.

MU Breakout Points to Key Price Levels

MU stock broke above a descending channel, pointing to a possible shift toward stronger momentum. The stock traded near $975 after the rally.

That level sits close to the 0.382 Fibonacci retracement at $977.89. This area may act as short-term resistance before another advance.

A pullback toward the $910 to $930 zone would retest the former channel resistance. Holding that region could support another move higher.

The next upside targets sit at $1,031 and $1,084. Stronger momentum could place $1,160 and $1,203 in focus.

The bullish setup remains valid while the MU stock price holds above $900 on a closing basis. A close below $900 would weaken the breakout structure.
