Citigroup Considers Stablecoin and Crypto ETF Custody Services

Citigroup is evaluating providing custody services for assets backing stablecoins and cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs). 

The bank is also considering payment and conversion services for these assets, according to Biswarup Chatterjee, Citi’s head of innovation. Interest in these products has risen after regulations now require stablecoin issuers to hold low-risk assets, such as U.S. Treasury bonds or cash. 

Citi could fill a niche by offering custodianship and accelerated settlements to corporate clients. Such moves could enhance efficiency, strengthen trust, and increase flexibility for businesses operating in the rapidly evolving digital asset landscape.

Citigroup is also looking at custody for digital assets linked to investment products, including crypto ETFs—a segment currently dominated by Coinbase. Demand is increasing as spot Bitcoin ETFs, notably 

’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (about $89 billion capitalization), expand. 

The bank already offers blockchain-based tokenized dollar payments for 24/7 global transfers and is testing direct stablecoin transfers for instant settlements.

While regulators under the Trump administration have taken a more flexible approach to cryptocurrencies, Citi stresses that all services must comply with anti-money laundering, FX, and cybersecurity requirements. 

The bank is considering issuing its own stablecoin, emphasizing strict legal verification and robust security for digital asset storage. This evolving approach positions Citigroup as a potential leader in the intersection of traditional finance and crypto.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has 

 an extension for spot Solana ETF applications, moving the final decision date to October 16, 2025. Five major funds are in line for review: 

Most applications were accepted for review in February, triggering a formal 240-day window. The SEC said it needs additional time to “thoroughly study the proposed rule change,” prompting the new deadline:

Despite the delay, the evaluation process is active—issuers were asked to submit amended S-1 forms in July. 

Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Eric Balchunas forecast said these funds could be approved as early as the summer, pointing to the launch of

XRP’s Familiar Pattern: Could a 156% Rally Be Brewing?

According to crypto market analyst Degen Profit, 

 that’s eerily reminiscent of its 2024 trajectory, which is initial weakness followed by a sharp breakout in July. 

This mirrored movement has sparked speculative excitement, with Degen Profit eyeing a dramatic 156% rally, potentially targeting a price as high as $7, provided XRP can firmly hold above the $2.95 support level.

Technical indicators reinforce this optimism. Price action is contained within a symmetrical triangle, testing the upper trendline, while XRP has crossed back above its 20- and 50‑period exponential moving averages (EMAs). Coupled with expanding Bollinger Bands and bullish momentum readings, a breakout looks increasingly plausible.

In this context, Degen Profit’s 156% rally scenario to $7 is bold yet not completely out of sight, provided XRP maintains strong support above $2.95, holds its breakout structure, and overall market sentiment stays bullish.

SEC and Ripple Officially Wrap Up Legal Saga

After nearly five years of courtroom drama, the XRP Army is celebrating in full force. 

Yesterday, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Ripple Labs 

 a Stipulation of Dismissal with the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, formally ending their appeals and bringing one of crypto’s longest-running battles to a close.

This dismissal cements the 2023 district court ruling by Judge Analisa Torres, which held that XRP sales on public exchanges do not constitute securities, while those to institutional investors did, resulting in a $125 million penalty and an injunction

With both sides withdrawing, the penalty stands and the litigation is finally over.

XRP holders were quick to react. Within hours, the token surged across markets, posting gains from 5% to over 13%, reaching highs of $3.36 as excitement rippled through the community. 

The XRP Army likened the moment to a space launch, “to the moon” with this phrase reverberating across social platforms and forums. 

Other declarations like “the end…and now back to business” and “the case is over” captured the sentiment that the long-overdue closure brings much-welcomed clarity on the

On the other hand, Lingrid’s technical thesis that XRP is stabilizing after a retracement, forming a bullish falling wedge just below its breakout zone is being reinforced by current price action and accumulation behavior. 

With consolidation taking place near the $3.00 psychological level and a potential breakout above $3.05, XRP looks primed to challenge $3.40, possibly higher if broader sentiment and legal clarity align.
