Pi Network (PI) is a controversial project that has attracted millions of users with the promise of 

 IOU tokens on their phones without the need for expensive equipment. Before its 

, the price of the IOU token has stabilized between $61 and $70, providing insight into the potential listing price.

Pi Network is one of the most talked-about crypto projects. Unlike Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies that require powerful computers for mining, Pi allows users to mine tokens through a mobile app. Traditional mining demands significant investment in hardware and is primarily accessible to large companies, while Pi Network is available to anyone with a phone, attracting millions of users.

On February 11, when the project announced its mainnet launch, the price of the IOU token surged by 62% within hours. Currently, some exchanges allow pre-trading of tokens (IOU), giving traders a chance to speculate on future prices.

The project's popularity is also evident on social media, with Pi Network's official account on X amassing 3.7 million followers, surpassing Ethereum and nearing leaders among meme coins like Shiba Inu and Dogecoin.

What Will Happen to the Token After Launch?

Recent experiences with major token launches do not inspire optimism. Highly anticipated projects such as 

 have seen significant price drops after hitting exchanges. The only exception has been Hyperliquid, which managed to maintain a high token value.

Pre-trading for Pi tokens offers a glimpse into potential prices following the official launch. Despite brief spikes up to $90-100, most activity remains in a lower range. Traders are actively purchasing tokens at $57-60, with most transactions occurring between $59 and $76.

Analysts believe that after launch, the price of Pi could stabilize between $61-70 — where it appears most stable during pre-trading. If interest in the project persists, prices may rise further; however, experiences with other tokens indicate that early investors often begin to take profits, leading to sharp price fluctuations.

One intriguing aspect of Pi Network is its 

, known as "Proof of Consensus" (PoC). This model allows users to mine coins simply by tapping a button once every 24 hours, making it incredibly user-friendly and energy-efficient compared to traditional mining methods that require extensive computational power and resources

, recently highlighted the efficiency and accessibility benefits of RWA tokenization using the XRP Ledger, positioning it as a key player in this emerging market. Meanwhile, the unexpected surge in demand for the Official TRUMP and Melania meme coins led to a liquidity crunch for MoonPay, prompting emergency funding from Galaxy Digital CEO Mike Novogratz and Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse. 

Ripple CTO David Schwartz Highlights RWA Tokenization in Latest ‘Crypto in a Minute’ Video

Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer and XRPL co-creator, David Schwartz, recently participated in the company’s “Crypto in a Minute” video series, discussing the potential of real-world asset (RWA) tokenization. The short video, shared by 

 enthusiast @BankXRP, highlights how blockchain technology can bring greater efficiency to the tokenization of physical assets such as real estate.

According to Schwartz, RWA tokenization presents transformative possibilities, particularly in real estate markets, where ownership validation, fractional sales, and collateralization could be revolutionized. His insights align with Ripple’s broader strategic ambitions in the blockchain-based asset tokenization space, a sector expected to reach trillions of dollars in value in the coming years.

In the video, Schwartz provided a concrete example to illustrate the benefits of RWA tokenization: tokenizing a house. He explained that this process would significantly simplify and streamline key aspects of property ownership, including:

MoonPay Secures $160 Million Emergency Loan From Galaxy Digital and Ripple Amid Trump Meme Coin Frenzy

In other news, the crypto on-ramp platform MoonPay faced an unprecedented surge in demand during the launch of the Official TRUMP and Melania meme coins, forcing the company to secure an emergency loan totaling $160 million from Galaxy Digital CEO Mike Novogratz and 

MoonPay’s enterprise president Keith Grossman revealed the details in a recent episode of the When Shift Happens podcast. According to Grossman, the platform saw a massive spike in activity the weekend ahead of the Jan. 20 inauguration, leading to what he described as a virtual DDoS attack due to the overwhelming number of registrations and transactions.

“The volumes were just gigantic. All of the liquidity that we used to buy and sell crypto was locked in BlackRock accounts in traditional finance… and it’s Saturday of a holiday weekend during the inauguration. So, we had no access to our capital. All of the reserves that we had were dwindling really fast,” Grossman stated.

Faced with a liquidity crisis, Novogratz provided MoonPay with a $100 million loan, while Garlinghouse added another $60 million to help the company meet the surging demand for Trump’s meme coin.

The demand for the Official TRUMP (TRUMP) meme coin was unlike anything seen before in the meme coin sector. Just one day after launch, the token’s market capitalization skyrocketed to nearly $9 billion, with a fully diluted valuation surpassing $70 billion.

The massive success of the token showed the growing appeal of political and celebrity-backed meme coins but also ignited a debate about the ethics and legality of such ventures.

Despite the controversy, the demand for the TRUMP and Melania meme coins drew comparisons to other celebrity-driven cryptocurrencies, reinforcing the idea that political branding and meme culture are becoming increasingly intertwined in the blockchain space.

The explosive rise of the TRUMP meme coin did not go unnoticed by regulators and legal experts. The launch quickly drew legal scrutiny, with some attorneys arguing that it could be a violation of the US Constitution.

David Lesperance, a legal expert, suggested that the meme coin could violate the Emoluments Clause, which prohibits US presidents from accepting gifts, payments, or financial benefits from foreign entities. The concern is that the Trump Organization and its affiliates reportedly control 80% of the TRUMP coin, creating a potential conflict of interest.

Adding fuel to the controversy, US Senator Elizabeth Warren 

 for a federal investigation into the token’s launch, expressing concerns that it could serve as a hidden channel for political donations or bribery.

“The Trump family-controlled Trump Organization and its affiliates hold 80 percent of the TRUMP coin,” Warren stated in a letter dated Jan. 22, 2025, urging authorities to examine the meme coin’s ownership structure and financial implications.

Meanwhile, Public Citizen, a nonprofit consumer protection organization, echoed Warren’s concerns. In a Feb. 5 letter, the group argued that a sitting president should be prohibited from launching a personal cryptocurrency, as it could create undue influence and financial conflicts.

MoonPay’s Repayment and Market Aftermath

MoonPay was able to access its BlackRock accounts on Jan. 21 and promptly repaid the $160 million loan from Novogratz and Garlinghouse. However, the rapid events of the weekend highlighted the volatility and unpredictability of the crypto sector, especially when high-profile figures and political figures are involved.

The market reaction was equally dramatic. While the TRUMP meme coin experienced an explosive rally, it also saw major losses, with reports indicating that investors lost up to $2 billion in subsequent price corrections.

The situation also renewed discussions about the regulatory landscape of meme coins. The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has so far refrained from direct oversight of meme coins, treating them as speculative assets rather than securities. However, some regulators believe that tokens tied to public figures, corporations, or political campaigns should be subjected to stricter oversight to prevent potential market manipulation and fraud.

The TRUMP meme coin saga is a stark reminder that the crypto industry is evolving in unexpected ways. The emergence of politically branded cryptocurrencies has introduced a new layer of controversy, legal debate, and regulatory uncertainty.

Bloomberg analysts Eric Balchunas and James Seyffart went through the filings for spot crypto ETFs to weigh the approval odds for each cryptocurrency in the list. The strongest candidate for the next string of ETF approvals is, apparently, Litecoin—the experts note its favorable regulatory standing, which CFTC cleared out in its KuCoin lawsuit. The commodity status distinguishes the fork of Bitcoin (often referred to as the "silver" to Bitcoin's “gold”) from assets that could be potentially considered unregistered securities. 

Meanwhile, much to the dismay of its ironclad fanbase, 

 has the lowest chance (65%) of approval, according to analysts, trailing behind Litecoin (90%), Dogecoin (75%), and Solana (70%). Balchunas noted that for their predictions, they only considered ETF filings structured similarly to BlackRock’s Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), which operates under the '33 Act framework. However, should the SEC greenlight the initial applications, the alternative ETF formats—such as those based on futures contracts or Cayman Islands subsidiaries regulated under the Investment Company Act of 1940—could also have a path to approval.

“Keep in mind all of this stuff (except Litecoin which was always high) was <5% prior to election. So these are really good odds relatively speaking, and will likely grow the more we see these go through the typical process,” the analyst added. 

True to their name, some members of XRPArmy chimed in to defend their favorite coin against FUD, arguing against the “NO” put for XRP under the header “Does SEC currently view as commodity?”. A Twitter/X user 

 pointed out that while the SEC appealed the decision in favor of Ripple, it didn’t contest the XRP status as a commodity. 

In response, Seyffart clarified that until all litigation between SEC and Ripple is settled, the prospect of XRP ETF will remain a far-off goal. Although the 19b-4 filings for DOGE and XRP will likely be acknowledged already this week, any meaningful development would have to wait until the end of 2025, when the SEC and Commissioner Heaster Peirce's Crypto task force are expected to start clearing the backlog of security vs commodity 

On Monday, NASDAQ formally filed 19b-4 forms for Coinshares’ XRP and Litecoin ETFs, following the same filing from Cboe last week for spot XRP exchange-traded funds managed by WisdomTree, Bitwise, 21Shares, and Canary. 

For a crypto ETF to launch in the US, two key approvals are typically required: S-1 and 19b-4. The S-1 is a registration statement filed by the ETF issuer to register the fund with the SEC, while the 19b-4 is submitted by the exchange seeking permission to list and trade the product.

Once the 19b-4 is submitted, the SEC must formally acknowledge the filing and publish it in the Federal Register. This marks the start of a public comment period, during which industry stakeholders and the public can provide feedback. After the comment period, the SEC has up to 240 days to review the application and decide whether to approve or reject it.
